Williams sisters crash out of French Open

Day 6 at the French Open began with Venus Williams crashing out to a 7-5, 6-3 defeat to Italy’s Flavia Penetta in the 3rd round. Her sister Serena also looked below par against Slovenia’s Katarina Srebotnik surrendering the first set 6-4. 27th seeded Srebotnik capitalized on Serena’s errors in the second set to dispatch the former champion in straight sets. Meanwhile, top seed Maria Sharapova dropped the 2nd set against American Bethanie Mattek but regained momentum in the 3rd to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
