Holland registered a comfortable 3-1 victory over Spain in their opening match of the 2008 Champions Trophy. The Dutch took the lead after ten minutes when Teun de Nooijer deflected the ball into the net. Ronald Brouwer followed up quickly to double the lead. A goal through Laurence Docherty in the second half strengthened the Dutch dominance. Xavi Ribas’ drag flick pulled one back for the Spaniards but that proved a mere consolation. Meanwhile Germany and Argentina drew opener their match 2-2.
