Flyback Converter - Part 2

Flyback converter has the same structure as the, buck boost converter with a transformer instead of an inductor. It can achieve very high conversion ratios. Due to intrinsic limitations, this converter is only used in low power applications (up to about 250 W). Flyback converter can be used for low power switch-mode power supplies eg. Cell phone charger, standby power supplies in PC’s etc. It can also be used in Xenon flash lamps, lasers, copiers etc.
